starts today, something I used to do when I was growing up. The idea is to give up something you really like.....sweets, smoking, cussing....whatever. So, as I ponder over Lent, I've gotta ask............why don't they do this starting right before Thanksgiving & ending right after Valentine's Day? There's no major "sweets" holidays between now & Easter, so what are we really giving up? Most people I know give up something food related...sweets, or dieting, soft drinks, bread....whatever. Something to think about hu?
Okay, don't get all Biblical on me & all, I am a Christian & know why Lent is during this time of year, BUT, wouldn't it just make more sense? I mean, all the eating, drinking (for some), sweets, desserts, etc. during the holidays is just crazy, so why not just give it all up!
And this brings me to my New Years resolutions. I don't usually make them. Why? Well, I'm honest enough to realize I probably won't keep them. I resolved to start exercising & exercise I have. 6-days a week since 2 weeks before Christmas & around mid-January I incorporated my weight training. I chose to work out 6-days a week because I knew I'd do at least 5 days, but I've actually done really well & have only had a couple of weeks where I only worked out 4-5 days. Not too bad.......and now Lent. Hu? How does this fit into my New Years Resolution plan? Well, think about it......Lent is giving up something that's really good, but really bad. Like sweets.....hm hm good, but oh so bad. Exercising......good for the body, heart & mind, but oh such a pain in my rear!! Get the picture?
So, I'm thinking of giving up exercising for Lent!
